European tech investment saw a dramatic rebound in September, led by a massive funding round for an artificial intelligence company. Meanwhile, a major industry conference is set to begin in San Francisco, offering last-minute ticket discounts to attendees.

Major European AI Funding

French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI raised €3 billion in Series D funding during September 2026. The capital is intended to expand its AI research and computing capacity, develop its infrastructure and products, and support further commercial and international expansion. This single deal was the largest in a month where European tech funding reached €15.8 billion across 300 deals, a significant increase from €3.2 billion and 165 deals in August.

The UK remained the continent's leading market, attracting €7.3 billion. While the cloud sector received the most funding overall at €5.5 billion, replacing AI from the top spot it held in August, AI companies still featured prominently in the largest deals. Another significant AI-related deal involved UK-based Nscale, which provides AI cloud infrastructure. The company secured two separate rounds: approximately $3 billion in investment-grade debt financing and $3.36 billion in pre-IPO financing through convertible loan notes.

Cate Lawrence, a senior journalist, noted that the figures paint a picture of an ecosystem attracting substantial capital, but one where a handful of outsized rounds can dramatically shift the monthly totals. The ten largest deals accounted for 70.8 percent of the month’s total funding. Other AI companies securing major rounds included Portugal's TEKEVER, which develops AI-powered autonomous systems and raised $580 million, and Netherlands-based Wonderful, which develops an AI operating system for enterprises and raised $550 million.
