Arena raises $200 million Series B, valuation doubles to $3.1B
Arena secured $200 million in a Series B funding round led by Lightspeed and Khosla, nearly doubling its valuation to $3.1 billion in ten months as demand grows for its AI evaluation platform.

Arena raised $200 million in a Series B funding round on Thursday. The round, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures, pushes the company's valuation to $3.1 billion, nearly double its $1.7 billion valuation from a $150 million Series A in January.
Revenue growth and investor backing
Other participants in the Series B included Salesforce Ventures, 01 Advisors, Dell Technologies Capital, Endeavor Catalyst, a16z, and Felicis. This investor confidence follows significant revenue growth. After its Series A, Arena's annual revenue run rate was estimated at $30 million. By June, that figure had grown to $100 million.
From public leaderboard to commercial tool
Arena began in 2023 as a research project at the University of California, Berkeley. Its free platform lets users enter prompts or create projects and then vote on which AI model performed better, crowdsourcing public rankings. The company claims tens of millions of monthly visitors.
The business model expanded last September with the launch of a paid service called AI Evaluations. This shift was driven by a market need. This year, AI labs realized their models were gaming benchmarking tests to rack up good scores without truly earning them. Enterprises wanted help determining which model worked best for their internal needs, moving beyond standardized benchmarks. The commercial product provides model labs and enterprises with detailed performance analytics based on community feedback.
New alignment leaderboard highlights model risks
Arena recently added a new category to its public leaderboard focused on alignment. Models in this category are assessed on factors including taking unauthorized actions, falsely attributing facts to sources, and falsely claiming to have completed tasks.
| Model | Rank on Alignment Leaderboard |
|---|---|
| OpenAI models (various) | Top spots |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | 6th |
| Claude Fable | 9th |
Currently, a slate of OpenAI’s models are at the top of the preliminary alignment leaderboard. Claude Opus 5.5 ranks sixth, while Claude Fable holds ninth place.
What’s next for Arena
The new funding reflects Arena's expansion from a research project to a platform offering commercial evaluation tools. Arena stated, "AI is advancing faster than our ability to evaluate it, and static benchmarks break down once models recognize they’re being tested." The company will use the Series B capital to expand these commercial AI evaluation tools as demand grows for trustworthy model assessment beyond standard benchmarks.
