Meta's Muse AI agent expands with avatars, glasses, and Mac
Meta announced major new features for its personal AI agent Muse at its Connect event, including a real-time digital avatar, integration with Meta smart
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg used his Connect keynote on Wednesday to detail a rapid expansion of capabilities for the company's personal AI agent, Muse. Launched in early September, Muse is designed to automate everyday tasks by connecting to a user's apps and services.
"The centerpiece of our vision for what we're building is Muse," Zuckerberg said. He predicted it would grow into a "personal superintelligence" for billions. The agent is powered by Meta's multimodal model, Muse Spark, built for agentic work. Zuckerberg stated Muse will be free for a large number of tokens, with Meta eventually profiting from a small fee on transactions.
Muse Realtime Avatar gives the AI a face
One of the more prominent announcements was the upcoming ability for users to create a distinct digital avatar for their Muse agent and video chat with it in real time. A new AI model, Muse Realtime Avatar, powers this feature. The goal is to make the previously faceless software more personable by giving it a face, body, and voice. Users will be able to hold live conversations with this avatar to assign tasks and ask questions.
Integration with Meta smart glasses
Meta also announced that Muse will be integrated into its line of smart glasses. Users will be able to communicate with their agent simply by speaking to their glasses, using a wake word for activation. According to the company, the glasses-based agent will be able to guide personalized workouts, log meals, book appointments, and assist with purchasing products a user sees. This feature is slated to launch sometime in the coming months.
Muse gains control of Mac desktops
Meta provided new details on bringing Muse's capabilities to Mac computers. Users will be able to delegate tasks, and the agent will be able to operate any application on the desktop. You can walk away from your computer and it keeps working for you on all the jobs you lined up, said Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang during the keynote. This positions Muse similarly to agent offerings from competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Expanded partnerships and shopping connectors
Meta is aggressively pursuing commerce integrations for Muse. The company has secured partnerships with Stripe and Shopify, allowing Muse to access the entire Shopify catalog and use Shop Pay for purchases. Support for PayPal payments has also been added.
A series of new retail partnerships were announced, enabling Muse to connect with apps from major companies. The company also highlighted connectors for travel and productivity services.
Wang noted Meta's recent move to open its platform for developers to build custom connectors, which garnered over 1,500 applications in less than a week. I think this could be a generational opportunity to start building for a new platform as it takes off, he said.
Agent gets its own email address
To facilitate its background operation, Muse will soon receive its own dedicated email address. Alexandr Wang announced the feature is in development, though a precise launch timeline was not given. Users will be able to add Muse to email threads or forward messages for the agent to handle on their behalf.
